How security lighting can help protect your home

While it has become an increasingly popular fixture on some houses, security lighting is more effective than some people may think. Security lights come in various styles so they can better suit the property they are attached to, yet can all serve as deterrents to any potential intruders. This is most effective in residential areas, where neighbours are likely to notice security lighting when it is triggered, and therefore investigate. In this instance, security lights can lead to criminal activity being interrupted or deterred altogether.

Security lighting can present your home as being a secure property, which is in itself is a powerful weapon in the fight against crime. Depending on the type of property you live in, you may want to give careful consideration to the size and style of security lighting you choose. For example, if you live in a terraced house, smaller security lights may only be needed. In a semi-detached house, a larger form of lighting may be required. This is also true of detached properties, which may need floodlights.

Security lights for businesses

While security lights are useful for home security, they are also widely used by businesses throughout the world. As with private residences, they can provide a property with a secure image as a deterrent to potential trespassers. Depending on the size of the building, you may require floodlights as a form of security. Not only do floodlights provide a wide field of light on a property if activated, but their presence can serve as a strong deterrent, as anyone caught in their beam is sure to be seen.

It is important to consider location when you are placing flood lights, not only for how effective they are in case of trespassers, but also with regards to neighbours. Depending on the size of flood lights you choose, they could cause some inconvenience to those around you. If floodlights are activated at a business which is away from other properties, then this is less of a problem. However, for a business which may be placed near residential housing, flood lights could be problematic. It is best to place flood lights in areas which are visible to others or CCTV cameras, and in areas which are likely to be most vulnerable.

Portable floodlights make using security lights easier

While standard floodlights are heavy and are usually placed in fixed spots around sites (both business and residential), portable floodlights can be moved quickly and easily from one place to another. These are ideal for building sites or outdoor events taking place in winter or late at night. Portable floodlights will work as well as standard flood lights, and most can be powered from a generator where no earthed supply is available.

Portable floodlights can provide a site with security for a brief or ongoing period, and offer versatility of placement. This means that portable floodlights can be moved from one spot to another throughout the night, and can ensure that vulnerable spots remain covered.
